GSV 234

Potent Anti-bacterial

Nisin (GSV 234) is a potential anti-bacterial food additive. It is active against both vegetative bacterial cells and its spore forms. 10 ppm of nisin is enough to inhibit the growth of food spoilage bacteria like Salmonella, Microcoocus, Lactobacillus and Listeria.

Extended shelf life

Nisin (GSV 234) offers excellent shelf life for processed milk products like cheese, paneer and rasagullas. Nisin is a natural choice for beverages like coconut water shelf life enhancement during retort heat processing. Liquid eggs when pasteurized along with addition of nisin, the shelf life enhances several fold.

Nisin, a natural fermentation product

Nisin (GSV 234) is a natural food ingredient produced by fermentation of milk bacteria. Cow milk and soya proteins are used for industrial fermentation of nisin. Nisin is a co-product of lactic acid fermentation of Lactococcus lactis.  Regulators like FSSAI, US-FDA, EFSA encourages application of nisin in wide range of food industries.

NO GMO. NO BENZOATE

None of the ingredients used for GSV 234 production is genetically modified. The bacterium used for the fermentation is also a natural isolate and the nucleic acid of the bacterium is not genetically engineered. The preservative is free from sodium benzoate and other hazardous chemicals.

Baby can eat it. GRAS

The formulation is safe. It is a milk solids containing peptide used for shelf life enhancement of infant foods and has been known for GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) listing by US-FDA. No clinically reported anti-microbial resistance for nisin is known. Nisin is a candidate anti-cancer molecule under investigation.

Process friendly

Nisin (GSV 234) can be employed in food processing steps such as retort heating, canning, pasteurization and high pressure processing. The molecule is stable at 121’C with anti-microbial activity. Nisin’s activity is favorable under acidic conditions usually employed for food processing and packaging.  Nisin can also used as surface active agent in polymeric packaging materials.
